2017 Miss Show Girl Sub Chamber Finals

At the recently held NQ sub-chamber Miss Showgirl finals, two wonderful entrants presented themselves to be considered for the 2017 NQ Sub-chamber Competition. Chelsea Sarkis from the Burdekin Show and Marinka Zanetich from the Cairns Show presented themselves to the judges at the Charters Towers Show Grounds for interviews and then again at the NQ Sub-chamber dinner later on that night for the final public speaking criteria.
Marinka Zanetich was selected to represent the Sub-chamber at the Brisbane Exhibition in August for the Qld State finals, while Chelsea was the runner-up. On behalf of the Cairns Show Association we wish to complement Marinka on her selection and wish Chelsea all the best as I am sure we will see her have another tilt at this competition in the near future.
Well done Chelsea and Marinka you are both a credit to your families and your Show societies.

2017 Rural Ambassador

Owen Daley was selected as the 2017 Cairns Show Rural Ambassador at the recently held Rural Ambassador Awards on Sunday 2nd April in the Plantations Restaurant Function's Room, Bungalow Hotel and now goes on to represent the Nth Qld Sub Chamber at the Brisbane Exhibition in August for the Qld State finals.

Owen, a dairy farmer from Millaa Millaa will represent the Cairns Show for the next twelve months and will go on to contest the North Queensland Sub-Chamber final in Charters Towers on Saturday 6th May. Hopefully, Owen will go on to represent the North Queensland Sub-Chamber and represent our Region at the Brisbane Exhibition in August this year. Owen has been heavily involved with the showing of dairy cattle all his life. Owen has won numerous judging and parading awards throughout Queensland. He was the captain of the winning teams in Youth Challenges at the Brisbane Ekka and the Sydney Royal Show helping the next generation to learn about preparing and showing cattle.

2017 Young Rural Ambassador

Presented by Natural Evolution Foods and BLA

Five young women representing the best and brightest of Far North Queensland farming 's next generation came together to contest the inaugural 2017 Cairns Show Young Rural Ambassador at the recently held Young Rural Ambassador Awards on Sunday 2nd April in the Plantations Restaurant Function's Room, Bungalow Hotel.

After an interview with the three judges, a self-produced video clip as an introduction and an impromptu speech with topical questions. Jane Slater, a Tully State High School student was selected as the 2017 Cairns Show Young Rural Ambassador and Rachel English, a Malanda State High School student as the runner-up.

This new competition recognises young people who are forward-thinking and have a passion for the land and their local agricultural shows. Hopefully the entrants will go on to use this competition as a stepping-stone towards the Rural Ambassador Awards.

Jane believes that winning this award will open up opportunities for her in the Agricultural Industry and would like to use the experience to advocate for the importance of younger farmers in our community.
