Cairns Miss Show Girl and Rural Ambassador Awards

 2017 Cairns Miss Show Girl Presentation Night

At the 2017 Cairns Miss Show Girl Presentation Evening held on Friday 31st March in the De Jarlais Function Centre, Marinka Zanetich was crowned as the 2017 Cairns Miss Show Girl winner with Sarah Hill-Murray being the runner-up. Marinka will now go on to contest the North Queensland Sub-Chamber final in Charters Towers on Saturday 6th May. Marinka, a project co-ordinator for Tropic Now is extremely passionate about our region. Marinka's family has lived in Cairns for generations and winning the Cairns Miss Show Girl Award allows her the opportunity to give back to the Cairns community by representing the Cairns Show for twelve months.

The Cairns Show Association wishes Marinka all the best of luck in Charters Towers and hopes that Marinka can go on and represent our Region at the Brisbane Exhibition in August this year.

2017 Rural Ambassador

Owen Daley was selected as the 2017 Cairns Show Rural Ambassador at the recently held Rural Ambassador Awards on Sunday 2nd April in the Plantations Restaurant Function's Room, Bungalow Hotel.

Owen, a dairy farmer from Millaa Millaa will represent the Cairns Show for the next twelve months and will go on to contest the North Queensland Sub-Chamber final in Charters Towers on Saturday 6th May. Hopefully, Owen will go on to represent the North Queensland Sub-Chamber and represent our Region at the Brisbane Exhibition in August this year. Owen has been heavily involved with the showing of dairy cattle all his life. Owen has won numerous judging and parading awards throughout Queensland. He was the captain of the winning teams in Youth Challenges at the Brisbane Ekka and the Sydney Royal Show helping the next generation to learn about preparing and showing cattle.

2017 Young Rural Ambassador

Five young women representing the best and brightest of Far North Queensland farming 's next generation came together to contest the inaugural 2017 Cairns Show Young Rural Ambassador at the recently held Young Rural Ambassador Awards on Sunday 2nd April in the Plantations Restaurant Function's Room, Bungalow Hotel.

After an interview with the three judges, a self-produced video clip as an introduction and an impromptu speech with topical questions. Jane Slater, a Tully State High School student was selected as the 2017 Cairns Show Young Rural Ambassador and Rachel English, a Malanda State High School student as the runner-up.

This new competition recognises young people who are forward-thinking and have a passion for the land and their local agricultural shows. Hopefully the entrants will go on to use this competition as a stepping-stone towards the Rural Ambassador Awards.

Jane believes that winning this award will open up opportunities for her in the Agricultural Industry and would like to use the experience to advocate for the importance of younger farmers in our community.
