The Cairns Showgirl Awards are about so much more than a title. They’re an opportunity to challenge yourself, meet new people, build confidence and develop skills that can take you well beyond the Show.

You don’t need to come from a farming background or already be an experienced leader. We’re looking for enthusiastic young women who want to get involved, have a go, connect with their community and discover more about the industries and people that make our region special.

Throughout the program, you’ll have opportunities to:

• Meet inspiring people and make new friendships
• Build confidence in public speaking and communication
• Develop leadership and professional skills
• Grow your community and industry connections
• Learn more about agriculture and the Show Movement
• Become involved behind the scenes at the Cairns Show
• Represent and celebrate the community you call home

For generations, Agricultural Shows have brought communities together, and the Cairns Showgirl program gives young women the chance to become part of that tradition while bringing their own ideas, personalities and passions to its future.

The successful Cairns Showgirl will have the exciting opportunity to represent the Cairns Show Association at the North Queensland Sub-Chamber Showgirl Awards, with the possibility of progressing to the Queensland State Showgirl Awards.

You don’t have to be the most confident person in the room to enter. Sometimes you just need to be brave enough to take the first step.

What’s Involved?

As a Cairns Showgirl Ambassador, you’ll become part of the team behind the Cairns Show and experience one of the region’s biggest community events from a whole new perspective.

Your role includes helping promote the Cairns Show and Cairns Show Association, connecting with visitors, meeting community and industry representatives, participating in official activities and getting involved throughout the three days of the Show.

Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to have fun, grow your confidence, make meaningful connections and create some incredible memories along the way.

Whether you’re passionate about agriculture, business, community, events, leadership, rural life or simply trying something new, we’d love to hear from you.

Beyond the Cairns Show

Being a Cairns Showgirl Ambassador opens the door to experiences, events and connections throughout Far North Queensland and beyond. Your journey doesn’t end when the Cairns Show finishes!

Throughout the year, you may have the opportunity to:

• Attend the Cairns Show Wine Awards
• Be part of the Cairns Show Auto Spectacular
• Represent Cairns at the QCAS Northern Sub-Chamber Showgirl Finals
• Take part in the Warwick Show Exchange Program
• Join the celebrations at the Mareeba Rodeo Downtown Parade
• Represent the Cairns Show in the Cairns Festival Parade and Babinda Harvest Festival Parade
• Attend local agricultural, community and industry events
• Meet new people, build connections and represent the Cairns Show across the region

It’s a chance to get involved, experience new things, build your network and make some amazing memories along the way.

 

Who Can Enter?

If you’re aged 18 to 28 years in the year of the State Finals and live within the Cairns region, we encourage you to put yourself forward.

You don’t need to come from a farming background, be an expert in agriculture or have previous ambassador experience. What matters is a willingness to learn, get involved and positively represent your community.

The program is designed to help you develop confidence, leadership, communication skills and community connections, while discovering more about the Cairns Show and the agricultural industries that are such an important part of our region.

What Are We Looking For?

Entrants have the opportunity to demonstrate their:

• Personality, enthusiasm and confidence
• Personal ambitions, interests and goals
• Interest in the Cairns Show, community and agricultural industries
• Communication and presentation skills
• Willingness to learn, participate and get involved

Most importantly, the Cairns Showgirl Awards are not a beauty contest or an academic test.

We’re looking for young women who are genuine, enthusiastic, community-minded and ready to embrace a new experience. You don’t need to know everything, and you certainly don’t need to be the most confident person in the room.

Just be yourself, have a go and enjoy the journey!
