The Cairns Show Association reserves the right to forbid the sale of any line for which specific application has not been made.

 

The sale of the following is NOT permitted:

  • Showbags – The selling of showbags of any description on any site is STRICTLY LIMITED to LICENSED showbag operators only
  • Soft toys – Will be NO HIGHER than 30CM.
  • Traditional Showmens lines – the selling of the following food lines are NOT PERMITTED as they are EXCLUSIVELY Showmen’s Guild lines:
  1. Fairy floss;
  2. Dagwood dogs;
  3. Waffles;
  4. Doughnuts;
  5. Toffee apples;
  6. Snow cones;
  7. Dolls on sticks; and
  8. Inflatables.

Banned items:

  • Bomb Bags
  • Bouncing Beans
  • Drug related goods (inc cocaine kits, bongs etc)
  • Explicit and hardcore T-Shirts
  • Explicit DVD’s or videos
  • Cigarettes / Vapes / Fake cigarettes
  • Fireworks – crackers
  • Fuel type fire lighters (Zippo)
  • Horns and trumpets
  • Iridescent Hair Sprays
  • Knives (including pen knives)
  • Laser pointers, lights, guns or similar distractive items
  • Metal and wooden martial art nunchakus
  • Novelties on sticks (Excluding Balloons)
  • Offensive material
  • Pressure pack snow
  • Shang-hi / Sling shots
  • Silly string or similar item
  • Stink bombs
  • Water bombs
  • Fireworks – crackers
  • Fire wallets
  • Pressure pack fart gas, snow or a similar item
  • Playing cards with nude or lurid images

 

Toy guns ARE acceptable

The following are UNACCEPTABLE:

  • Ball bearing guns
  • Eight shot caps
  • Pellet guns
  • Pop downs (throw downs)
  • Potato Gun
  • Replica guns (bullet type)
  • Roll and strip caps
  • Water pistols over 150mm (6″)
  • Gel Blaster Guns

 

Samurai Swords, English Swords and Fencing Swords are to be sold in SEALED PACKAGING by Licensed Traders ONLY.

BUMP-IN

Exhibitors are invited to bump-in from Monday 14th July between 9am – 5pm and Tuesday 15 July between 9am – 9pm. Exhibitors who require additional time to bump-in larger exhibitors may be permitted to bump-in earlier, but must a written request must be sent to the Site Coordinator or Head Steward for approval prior.

 

BUMP-OUT

Exhibitors can commence bump-out on Friday 18 July after closing time. Exhibitors must vacate sites including shipping containers by close of business Tuesday 22 July. The Cairns Show Association will not be responsible for any equipment or stock left on the grounds after this date.

 

BOUNDARIES OF SITES

Each site has a boundary which must not be exceeded. If site holders exceed their site boundaries, they will be asked to rectify the situation or be liable for charges applicable to the costs of larger sites. The boundary rules and regulations apply to all sites – outside site holders and Fred Moule Exhibition Centre exhibitors.

 

DELIVERY OF STOCK DURING SHOWTIME

Delivery of stock during showtime, will be via Gate 4 at the Severin Street entrance. Deliveries will only be permitted prior to opening times and all vehicles must vacate from the grounds by 8.45am. Vehicle deliveries will not be allowed after 8.30am.

Please advise all delivery drivers regarding entry points and delivery deadlines.

 

SPEED LIMIT ON THE SHOW GROUNDS

For the entire period of the show, set-up and pack-down, the speed limit on the grounds will be strictly 10kph.

 

AUTHORISED PARKING ZONES DURING SHOWTIME

During the Show, there are authorised vehicle parking zones on Severin Street and Mulgrave Road along the showgrounds. These parking zones are reserved only for officials and staff only. Please check the street signage to avoid a parking fine as Council inspectors will be in the vicinity. A parking permit is required to park in these areas.

 

EXHIBITOR CAR PARKING AT THE CAIRNS SHOW

There is an allocation of car parking available to all exhibitors behind the Horticulture Pavilion (normally the Cairns Recreation Youth Centre) at an additional cost.

Access is via Mulgrave Road near the Fred Moule Exhibition Centre. Exhibitors enter through the Horticultural Pavilion building before and during the event. The number of car parks allocated for the use of site holders is limited to a maximum of two car park spaces per site which need to be pre-purchased. Car park cost $15 per vehicle, per day and non-transferable. Car park can be booked during the application process and paid for with site fees.  Additional car park spaces may be allocated subject to availability.

Alternatively there is street parking around the vicinity of the Cairns Showgrounds. Please read ‘authorised parking zones’ section and check the street signage prior to parking during show days

FOOD LICENCE AND GAS SYSTEM COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE FOR FOOD VENDORS

All food operators using LP gas for cooking, need to have been inspected by a gas work license holder in the previous 12 months and have a gas system compliance certificate.

Additionally, inspections by the Cairns Regional Council will occur prior and during the show for the appropriate food license and food handing compliance. More information can be found here

 

ILLEGAL DISPOSAL OF COOKING OIL AND OTHER WASTE— FINES APPLICABLE

The Cairns Regional Council inspectors will be on site and will issue on the spot fines for those not complying with EPA regulations.  Cairns Regional Council and the EPA can impose fines of up to $10,000 for non-compliance. By law, exhibitors must dispose of cooking oils and other waste (eg. trade water) responsibly. Cooking oils must not be left on the grounds and commercial waste water must be discharged in the correct ‘cleaners sinks’ located around the showgrounds. This is located behind Blackies Toilet Block and the Severin Street Amenities Block.

 

ELECTRICAL USAGE FROM POINT OF SUPPLY

The Cairns Show Association requests that all exhibitors, operators of show amusements, show sites or commercial activities always use electrical safety switches which are plugged in at the ‘point of supply’.

 Under the Electrical Safety Act 2002 it is compulsory to use electrical safety switches at the point of supply and leads must be tested and tagged at the site holders expense. Everyone must comply with the following:

  • Electrical safety switch at ‘point of supply’
  • Tagged and tested electrical leads and
  • No double adaptors or piggy back leads to be used at all

At all times electrical leads must not impede the flow of pedestrians and vehicles.  Leads will be checked at the Cairns Show.

 

FIRE REGULATIONS

The installation of any fuel burning appliance using either liquid or solid fuel shall conform to the regulations available from the Authorities. The use of LPG gas for cooking or demonstrations shall comply with regulations available from the Authorities. Fire extinguishers and hose reels are located in strategic locations around the Fred Moule Exhibition Centre and the Showgrounds and are checked every 6 months.

 

ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE EXHIBITORS CAMPING

Campers must not contaminate waterways, roadside gutters, stormwater drainage as per the Environmental Protection Regulation 2019. Laundry wastewater may be discharged to ground provided the lines are appropriately covered with a filter sock measuring 50-100 micron. Feet socks and stockings are not appropriate methods. These socks must be securely attached to ensure no pollution to the ground. Filter socks can be purchased from the Cairns Show office for $11each. A full list of prescribed water contaminants can be found on the Cairns Regional Council’s website here. For compliance, your details may be passed on to the Cairns Regional Council.  EPA Inspectors will be on site and fines will be issued for those who are not compliant.

We are NOT accepting any new food vendors at this time. All incumbent exhibitors have first right to renew their site before the sites are released to the general public.

Any new food vendor applications that are received will be placed on the waitlist.

 

FOOD VENDORS, GAS COMPLIANCE AND ILLEGAL DISPOSAL OF WASTE

All food vehicles/sites etc, must have a current “Food Business License” certificateAll temporary food permit applications must be received by Cairns Regional Council no later than 30 days out from the Cairns Show.

 

All hot food exhibitors will need to engage a certified gas professional to ensure all gas-related installations, connections and maintenance are safe to use. We will be requesting a valid compliance certificate at the time of application that meets the AS/NZS 5601 gas installation safety standards.

 

In addition all trade waste such as cooking oil and waste water must be disposed of in a manner in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Protection (Waste Management) Regulation 2000. There is to be no illegal dumping of trade waste or left on the Cairns Showgrounds. Cairns Regional Council inspectors and the EPA can impose files of up to $10,000 for non-compliance. SINGLE-USE PLASTIC ITEMS

Single-use items are straws, stirrers, swizzle sticks, plates, unenclosed plastic bowls, plastic forks, spoons, knives, splayds, chopsticks and food picks, expanded polystyrene (EPS) takeaway containers and polystyrene (EPS) cups are banned as of 1st September 2021.
