“I had an amazing time in the Rural Ambassador role. It was a once in a lifetime experience that really boosted my confidence and public speaking skills. I was also able to see a new side of the Show and gain an understanding all the hard work and dedicated people behind the show movement.

As the Rural Ambassador, I educated people about the importance of agriculture and sustainability. I really enjoyed this aspect of the role as I am a big believer in regenerative agricultural practices. I highly recommend the rural ambassador role to all young people interested in agriculture.”

The Rural Ambassador competition is a great way to showcase young people in Agriculture because there’s not a lot of young people in Agriculture or rather that are seen in Agriculture. So, it’s important that we make sure young people know that it’s a good industry to be in. It’s exciting, and we’re passionate, and we have a lot to offer. That’s why it’s so important we support our rural community by making our voice heard in competitions like the Rural Ambassador Awards. read more

Cairns Taiko would not exist without the assistance of the Cairns Show Association.

We are a not-for-profit organisation established to promote cross-cultural understanding, teamwork, fitness and the joy of music, but we require a large open area for teaching and rehearsing, and a similar sized area for storing our equipment.  We previously stored all our instruments in a cupboard and had to transfer them to a different venue for rehearsals, but since moving into “our” warehouse inside the Showgrounds, we have been able to double the number of instruments in our collection, expand our performances, begin weekly beginners classes and share our love of Japanese drumming at more than 20 events per year.  We are very proud of our equipment and our performances, but also humbly grateful to the Cairns Show Association for their understanding and support.

“I entered this competition mainly due to my never-ending love for the Agriculture Industry and the Show Movement. Rural Shows are a great way for exhibitors, farmers, and agriculturally based schools to show their produce to their local and wider community who may not be exposed to these practices often. I wanted to give back to my local community and I felt this competition would be an amazing opportunity for me to do so.” read more
